Cinematography video feedback and learner response

CINEMATOGRAPHY TASK

1) Type up your feedback/comments from your teacher.
  • Superb production - I loved it! So many impressive technical elements - the flash to white, sound effects etc.
  • Labelling pretty much spot on (perhaps an over-the-shoulder shot at end missed). Sound great too.
  • Overall, genuinely entertaining and meets the brief perfectly.
2) Type up your feedback from fellow students.
  • Good acting
  • Mostly labelled well
  • Missed some labels (e.g. pan at start)
  • Variety of shots used
  • Music faded with the prop at the end
  • Special effects
  • Establishing shot
  • Good editing
3) Now reflect on your work and write your own summary of the comments and feedback you have received. Write three WWWs and three EBIs.

       WWW
  • Variety of camera shots/angles used
  • Good use of special effects
  • Good use of sound
       EBI
  • Include all of the labels
  • Make it so that all sounds are audible (Gasp drowned out by music)
  • Reach the time on the brief (15 seconds over)
4) Learner response: think about what you learned about cinematography making the video and also watching others. What will you do differently when you start the coursework in the summer? What tips or tricks have you learned from others that you can use next time? Are there any specific aspects of camerawork that you need to revise or practice?
  • After making this video I have learned that cinematography is integral to story telling when it comes to many different types of media as the different movements and angles can completely change the way in which the audience interprets the scene. For example a scene in a hospital could have rapidly moving cameras cutting from one scene to the next making the viewer as disorientated as the patient or the cameras could be steady and focused on the patients mirroring how the doctors may be seeing the situation. In future I will try to include different angles and use more camera movement instead of always having it stationary.
